Game night funds toys for kids facing cancer.

Children undergoing cancer treatment often face long, grueling days of chemotherapy, testing and doctor visits. When someone shows up to their hospital rooms with toys instead of medical orders, it’s a much-needed ray of sunshine, lifting their spirits and helping them feel like kids again.

The Bottomless Toy Chest is a nonprofit that does just that. Founder and executive director Mickey Guisewite spoke at a meeting for Woman’s Life Chapter 827 Canton, Michigan, moving members to action.

“It is such a great organization that came from a devastating diagnosis of cancer of her son,” says Chapter President Jen C. “We knew we wanted to help.”

Through a creative Family Feud-style game show night this past March, the chapter raised $3,126, including $1,000 in Woman’s Life matching funds, to support the Bottomless Toy Chest. The fun, high-energy event translated into meaningful impact for families navigating some of life’s hardest moments.

“We know that several kids going through cancer treatment will be blessed by a visit from the Bottomless Toy Chest,” Jen says. “Even if just for a moment they can take their minds off cancer and enjoy a new toy, it was all very worth it.”

Led by event chair Anne W., volunteers leaned into creativity, making a familiar trivia-style concept their own. Team competitions, prizes, an egg pull, a dinner buffet, a photo booth and other elements kept guests engaged throughout the night. Chapter 827, nicknamed Chicks 4 Charity, also met another evening to help wrap 100 toys.

“The Chicks always come through,” Anne says.

Supporting the Bottomless Toy Chest not only grew members’ hearts and their community impact, but it also helped grow the chapter itself. The event even brought in a new member.

Jen couldn’t be more pleased with the chapter for supporting this nonprofit and several other worthy causes throughout the year.

“We often talk about how fortunate we are that we are able to help others in the way that we do,” Jen says. “We realize that alone we can do little, but when we come together, we can do great things.”

In Canton, one night of games became something much bigger—a reminder that when people come together with purpose, they can create moments of light even in the darkest circumstances.
